Is it okay to lay on my back during pregnancy?
Is it okay to lay on my back while pregnant? It depends.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms:
👉🏼increase in heart rate
👉🏼drop in blood pressure
👉🏼weakness
👉🏼lightheadedness
👉🏼nausea or even fainting
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Supine hypotensive syndrome, occurs when the inferior vena cava is blocked limiting blood flow. Up to 11% of pregnant people will experience this and it’s most common during the 2nd & 3rd trimester as belly grows.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So like everything else in pregnancy this varies from person to person. It is important that you’re aware of the symptoms that way you can identify it if it occurs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏼Here’s what you can do: If you are uncomfortable on your back or feel some of the symptoms above, laying on your side or even propping yourself up with pillows can make all the difference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This also applies to exercises on your back, so it’s always a good idea to have pillows handy during your workout and adjust when needed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tell me, what is/was your comfort level laying on your back during pregnancy?
